In order for the cardboard boxes to fulfill their function, they must be stored properly. Cardboard is an ecological product, but it is not resistant to moisture, temperature, tearing or mold. Bad storage of cartons will make them unusable.

What to pay attention to?

The temperature of the storage room should be between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius. The temperature in the warehouse must be relatively constant, we cannot cause sudden heat surges or keep cardboard boxes near its source – like radiators. It is not advisable for cardboard packages to lie in the sun.

A dry surface is essential if we don’t want the cardboard to get wet. They behave like paper and absorb water. Therefore, it is safest to put them on a pallet or put a tarpaulin or other moisture-resistant material under them – as long as they are not placed directly on the floor.

Cardboard packaging should be protected against dust and dirt – especially if we use packaging machines. Dust disrupts their work.

Humidity is another important element. Too big and too small have a negative effect on cardboard. We recommend keeping the humidity in the range of 30-70%, and also ensuring that, as in the case of temperature, it is kept relatively constant, without sudden changes.

We can prevent cardboard packaging from deforming by putting heavier things on them – but let’s not overdo it with weight, because each carton has its own strength. Overloaded (or too many boxes on top of each other) can damage the material.

Securing cardboard packaging

Cardboard packages are secured with stretch foil, strapping tapes and very often with additional layers of cardboard. It is recommended that the packaging is not unpacked until we start to use it, and that the protection should not be thrown away until all the boxes have been removed for use.

When unpacking boxes, we often use sharp objects – such as scissors or knives – to remove the protection. Handle them carefully so as not to damage the cardboard.

Cardboard packaging is popular and environmentally friendly – but if we want to make full use of it, it is worth remembering the above rules. Thanks to this, none of them will be damaged and carefully packed orders will be delivered to customers.
